The maiden free masterclass topic in focus session: “myths around the fundraising process” was held on 5th December 2019 to Patrons of the SG Ghana Home of Business (HoB):

The attached presentation was delivered by a Partner of the Home of Business, GFA Consulting (Debt and Equity arrangers expert)

Duration was approximately 2hrs and the session which was attended by over 30 participants; the resource person took the audience through various interactive topics of interest in fundraising and general feedback from participants was very positive.

Some of the topics include:

  • Identifying the challenges of financing growth and expansion for African SMEs
  • Understanding what financiers think and look out for
  • Understanding how financiers work and operate
  • Practical processes proposed for successful fundraising

The session also identified Six (6) most prominent general myths around fundraising and these took centre stage during the discussions:

  • Myth No 1 – “The market is there, so I don’t see why I don’t get funding!”
  • Myth No 2 – “I need money now to execute my contract, so let me raise funding.”
  • Myth No 3 – “To raise money, I just need to develop a business plan”
  • Myth No 4 – “It doesn’t make sense to spend money in order to raise money.”
  • Myth No 5 – “The more bullish I am with my financial assumptions, the better.”
  • Myth No 6 – “Abroad I can get cheaper debt than in Ghana.”

Fifty Six (56) participants from the business community benefited from this FREE monthly webinar session, presented by Dominic Dokbilla Naab (AG. Head DTRD Technical Unit, Ghana Revenue Authority). 

The main topics developed include;

  1. Indicators of ease of doing business in Ghana.
  2. The Registration with Ghana Revenue Authority and Tax Obligations
  3. Tax compliance factors
  4. Tax Reliefs, Exemptions and Incentives for Entrepreneurs and Businesses

  • Taxpayer registration requirements and processes
  • Various forms of Tax reliefs to Young Entrepreneurs.
  • Exemptions available to manufacturing and other businesses
  • Tax Holidays and rebates
